Jack Kettlewell

Painter Jack Kettlewell completed his MA at Staffordshire University in 1998. His practice explores visually diverse subject matter ranging from New York street signs to kitchen cloths and palm trees. Making both figurative and abstract work, Jack is a skilled portraitist having exhibited as part of the BP Portrait Award at the National Portrait Gallery. Recent works on paper explore his surroundings from the seemingly mundane landscape of local streets and suburban housing, to mischievous tumblers of absinthe – in an examination of beauty and intrigue within the ordinary. He describes his practice as ‘making work about making work’.

We were proud to present a solo exhibition of works on paper by Jack at Blue Shop Cottage, London, in 2019. To coincide with the exhibition, two limited edition etchings, ‘Triple Mint’ and ‘Hot Shot’ were published by Oliver Projects which were subsequently selected for the Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair (2019) and the Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition (2020).

Jack lives and works in Sheffield.
