Oil-based monotype, 35 x 26cm

Amsterdam-born artist Bobbye Fermie is renowned for her dreamlike works on paper that explore introspective female figures inhabiting imaginary spaces. Inspired by memories and photographs, her work is characterised by a limited palette which creates impact and lends each image a graphic quality.

In early 2023 Bobbye began to explore printmaking using two very different techniques; woodcut and monotype. The result is her first cohesive series of prints titled 'Tales of the Home', which Oliver Projects has been proud to launch exclusively online. In these prints, Bobbye has continued to investigate the lives of her solitary female figures going about their business in domestic scenarios.

This framed, unique oil-based monotype has been hand-printed at Artichoke Print Workshop, in Brixton. It is one of seven new unique works produced in a palette of reds, pinks and blues. The monotype technique allows the artist to work freely and spontaneously, producing painterly images that are close in quality to watercolour paintings. The figure depicted by the artist in ‘Stories of the Day’ is characteristic of Bobbye’s quiet protagonists; reaching for a book, the figure has an almost ghostly quality. It has been framed behind anti-reflective glass in whitewashed maple.

Bobbye studied in the Netherlands and Belgium before moving to London in 2014 to attend the Royal Drawing School. She has undertaken artistic residencies in the UK and Italy and her work has been featured in several publications. She has exhibited widely in the UK and her work is currently held at several collections, including the Morritz-Heyman Collection, The Royal Collection and Soho House. She lives and works in north London.
