Joseph Goody’s abstract imagery is inspired by – in his words – ‘literature, castle walls, parapets and ideas of organisation’. Meticulously composed, his works explore geometric forms and layering with a softness that creates a sense of tension.
This is one of a set of four woodcut prints that continue to use the distinctive colour palette and dialogue between abstraction and architectural figuration that characterises Joseph’s painting practice. The medium of woodcut particularly suits Joseph’s bold, graphic imagery and the smaller scale of these works means that the artist can hand-print the edition himself, without the need for a printing press.
Joseph graduated from Goldsmiths, University of London, in 2011 and won the Neville Burston Award for Painting. He continued his studies at the Royal Drawing School where he won The Patrons Club Prize in 2012. He has exhibited in group exhibitions presented by Oliver Projects, Cavaliero Finn, Cob Gallery, and Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair, all in London. In 2020, his paintings were showcased in a solo exhibition at Sid Motion Gallery, London.
