Joseph Goody, Aperture, 2024 (framed)
Oil-based monoprint, 76 x 56cm
Joseph Goody’s abstract imagery is inspired by – in his words – ‘literature, castle walls, parapets and ideas of organisation’. Meticulously composed, his works have historically explored geometric forms and layering with a softness that creates a sense of tension.
This framed, unique print is a continuation of Joseph’s latest body of work recently shown in 'Shaping Time' an exhibition of new work by Joseph presented by Oliver Projects in collaboration with Sims Reed Gallery in September 2024. These new paintings and monoprints see the artist exploring new territory; his imagery has begun to feel dramatically different, with a greater sense of complexity. ‘Aperture’ is the latest monoprint in this series. With its vibrant palette, the composition investigates geometrically-shaped windows and negative spaces, presenting the viewer with numerous viewpoints as if peering through a lens.
Joseph graduated from Goldsmiths, University of London, in 2011 and won the Neville Burston Award for Painting. He continued his studies at the Royal Drawing School where he won The Patrons Club Prize in 2012. Sid Motion Gallery, London, presented a solo exhibition of paintings in 2020. Oliver Projects has shown Joseph’s works regularly including at the Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair (2021 and 2023) and, most recently, in ‘Almost Blue’ at the RWS Gallery (May 2024). Joseph is represented by Cob Gallery and he lives and works in south east London.
