Joseph Goody, Collage Series #5, 2020

£525.00

Oil, woodcut and gouache on collaged paper, 30 x 26cm (unframed)

Joseph Goody’s abstract imagery is inspired by – in his words – ‘literature, castle walls, parapets and ideas of organisation’. Meticulously composed, his works explore geometric forms and layering with a softness that creates a sense of tension.

Joseph’s collages continue to use the distinctive colour palette and dialogue between abstraction and architectural figuration that characterise his painting practice. Experimental and vibrant, they combine fragments of painted and printed paper to create new compositions. These unique works also have a sculptural feel due to their overlapping components and subtly textured surfaces. Experimental in feel, Joseph says that the combining of ‘different colours and material surfaces in these collages has had a significant influence upon my painting, and how I explore ideas’.

Joseph graduated from Goldsmiths, University of London, in 2011 and won the Neville Burston Award for Painting. He continued his studies at the Royal Drawing School where he won The Patrons Club Prize in 2012. He has exhibited in group exhibitions presented by Oliver Projects, Cavaliero Finn, Cob Gallery, and Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair, all in London. In 2020, his paintings were showcased in a solo exhibition at Sid Motion Gallery, London. Joseph lives and works in south east London.
