Joseph Goody’s abstract imagery is inspired by – in his words – ‘literature, castle walls, parapets and ideas of organisation’. Meticulously composed, his works explore geometric forms and layering with a softness that creates a sense of tension.
This unframed, unique print is from a new series of monoprints being launched by Oliver Projects at the 2023 Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair. Begun in Cornwall, and developed in south east London, these are the artist’s largest prints to date, and his first unique prints. Evocatively titled and complex, the series shows a distinct progression from Joseph’s previous printed works. The title of this vivid work relates to the density of entangled lines that weave across the composition. A similar language can also be seen in Joseph’s most recent works on canvas. He says:
‘These prints have come at a time when I had just begun to explore a fresh approach to painting; embracing complexity and finding ways to give form and line equal priority. I have been able to approach these works in the manner I would a painting, focusing on one image and building up the piece; pushing it forwards and embracing unknown outcomes.’
Joseph graduated from Goldsmiths, University of London, in 2011 and won the Neville Burston Award for Painting. He continued his studies at the Royal Drawing School where he won The Patrons Club Prize in 2012. He has exhibited in group exhibitions presented by Oliver Projects, Cavaliero Finn, Cob Gallery, and Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair, all in London. In 2020, his paintings were showcased in a solo exhibition at Sid Motion Gallery, London.
Joseph lives and works in south east London.
