Joseph Goody, LPS 2, 2018

£995.00

Watercolour, pastel and acrylic on paper, 76 x 56cm (unframed)

Joseph Goody’s abstract imagery is inspired by – in his words – ‘literature, castle walls, parapets and ideas of organisation’. Meticulously composed, his works explore geometric forms and layering with a softness that creates a sense of tension.

In this painting Joseph has combined watercolour, pastel and acrylic to create a richly textured work on paper that sits between pure watercolour and Joseph’s weightier oil paintings. The earthy tones used in the horizontal band across the centre of this ‘large paper study’ contrast with the textured pinks and blues surrounding it. The composition hints at a land or seascape whilst remaining resolutely abstract.

Joseph graduated from Goldsmiths, University of London, in 2011 and won the Neville Burston Award for Painting. He continued his studies at the Royal Drawing School where he won The Patrons Club Prize in 2012. He has exhibited in group exhibitions presented by Oliver Projects, Cavaliero Finn, Cob Gallery, and Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair, all in London. In 2020, his work was showcased in a solo exhibition at Sid Motion Gallery, London and in 2023, Marlborough Fine Art included three large paintings by Joseph in a group exhibition ‘Abstract Colour’.

Joseph lives and works in south east London.
