Joseph Goody’s abstract imagery is inspired by – in his words – ‘literature, castle walls, parapets and ideas of organisation’. Meticulously composed, his works explore geometric forms and layering with a softness that creates a sense of tension.
This is one of a set of four framed woodcut prints that continue to use the distinctive colour palette and dialogue between abstraction and architectural figuration that characterises Joseph’s painting practice. The medium of woodcut particularly suits Joseph’s graphic, abstract imagery and the smaller scale of these works means that the artist can hand-print the edition himself, without the need for a printing press. This work is currently on show at Sims Reed Gallery as part of our exhibition 'Shaping Time'.
Joseph graduated from Goldsmiths, University of London, in 2011 and won the Neville Burston Award for Painting. He continued his studies at the Royal Drawing School where he won The Patrons Club Prize in 2012. Sid Motion Gallery, London, presented a solo exhibition of paintings in 2020. Oliver Projects has shown Joseph’s works regularly including at the Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair (2021 and 2023) and, most recently, in ‘Almost Blue’ at the RWS Gallery (May 2024). Joseph is represented by Cob Gallery and he lives and works in south east London.
