Joseph Goody, Star-bent, 2020

£3,000.00

Oil on canvas, 100 x 85cm

Joseph Goody’s abstract imagery is inspired by – in his words – ‘literature, castle walls, parapets and ideas of organisation’. Meticulously composed, his works explore geometric forms and layering with a softness that creates a sense of tension.

This abstract oil painting on canvas from 2020 is part of our 2024 online collection and exhibition ‘Almost Blue, along with a later monoprint by the artist titled ‘Rime’. It is the first time that Oliver Projects has exhibited an oil on canvas painting by Joseph. He describes the work as being an ‘exploration of space, using colour, and form. The colour blue has an exciting role to pay in exploring that relationship. It can allude to a pictorial and emotional depth unlike other pigments, through its immediate relationship with the sea and sky’.

Joseph graduated from Goldsmiths, University of London, in 2011 and won the Neville Burston Award for Painting. He continued his studies at the Royal Drawing School where he won The Patrons Club Prize in 2012. He has exhibited in group exhibitions presented by Oliver Projects, Cavaliero Finn, Cob Gallery, and Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair, all in London. In 2020, his paintings were showcased in a solo exhibition at Sid Motion Gallery, London. Oliver Projects was proud to launch a new set of monoprints by Joseph at the Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair in 2023.

Joseph lives and works in south east London.
